CARE GUIDE

Size: Adults can reach 1.5cm

Origin: USA, Antilles and Bahamas

Lifespan: Approximately 1 year.

Natural Habitat: The Jumping Spider inhabits subtropical areas of the south-eastern USA (Florida) and the Caribbean.

The Jumping Spider is one of the most fun spider species to keep. Small but full of attitude and curiosity, it can even recognise its owner. It is a great species for beginners.

Although this is an easy species to keep, you should pay attention to a few aspects and ensure certain conditions, which you will find in the following paragraphs.

Terrarium

Size: A minimum terrarium of 20x20x20 is recommended for 1 adult. Younger animals should be kept in proportionally smaller terrariums.

Material: Glass

 - Heating and Lighting

The terrarium temperature should be kept between 21 and 28ºC. To stay within this range, no heat source is usually needed.

Spiders do not need UVB.

- Humidity

The Jumping Spider is quite tolerant of changes in relative humidity. Simply mist the terrarium regularly (every 1-2 days).

- Decor

For decor, try to recreate a dry forest-floor habitat. This species likes to build its web at the top of the terrarium, so provide several anchor points. You can decorate the terrarium with logs, plants (live or artificial), cork bark, stones, moss...

Diet and Supplementation

Feeding habits: Insectivorous

Diet: As juveniles they can be fed every 2-3 days. As they grow, feeding can be reduced to every 5 days. This species has a voracious appetite.

- Foods

Insects: Fruit Flies and Crickets...

- Supplementation

Spiders do not need supplementation.
