Nutritional information
If you want to increase their nutritional value before feeding them to your pet, you can carry out gut loading by feeding the locusts with Repashy SuperLoad the day before and then sprinkling them with Nutri-Cal immediately before feeding them to your pet.
Conservation
The best way to preserve your locusts and keep them alive for as long as possible is to prepare a mini habitat for them, where they have space and hiding places. Our Braplast Perforated Boxes are perfect for this purpose. However, any box with adequate ventilation will do. You should place a layer of wheat bran at the bottom of the box to absorb any moisture that may condense inside, and provide the locusts with surface area so that they can climb up and away from the other locusts (egg cartons are often used, which, due to their shape and large surface area, provide the ideal environment for locusts). You should keep the locusts at a temperature between 22ºC and 30ºC, in a relatively dry environment. To feed them, you should give them properly washed and dried grass. You should replenish the locusts' food as often as possible, ideally on a daily basis.
Additional nutritional information
Locusts are considered to be a healthy and well-balanced live food, with a very low fat percentage (approx. 9%) and a protein content of approximately 30%. They also have a Ca:P ratio of 0.27.
