Tropical Isopods - Trichorhina tormentosa

The Tropical Isopods (Trichorhina tormentosa) are small prehistoric crustaceans, up to 5mm, that live in damp substrates and act as decomposers, making them a great choice for keeping the soil of tropical terrariums healthy. They can be used together with a Springtail Culture , to keep tropical terrariums humid, clean and healthy.

As well as keeping the terrarium soil healthy, they are also a favourite food of small amphibian species, such as dart frogs.

Storage and Use

Your Tropical Isopods can be kept in the container they are shipped in; just keep the substrate inside damp and regularly provide food such as Arcadia Custodian Fuel. They should be kept at 20ºC to 25ºC. If you cannot see the isopods straight away, don't worry — they tend to hide in the substrate. To colonise a terrarium, simply mix the entire contents of the box into the terrarium substrate.
