CARE GUIDE

Size: Adults can reach 14cm

Origin: Madagascar

Lifespan: Up to 15 years in captivity

Natural Habitat: Phelsuma quadriocellata inhabit the humid forests of south-eastern Madagascar.

Phelsuma quadriocellata are a fast, colourful arboreal gecko species. They are fairly easy to keep in captivity, which makes them a very popular choice.

Although this is a relatively easy species to keep, a few aspects require attention and certain conditions must be ensured, as described in the following paragraphs.

Terrarium

Size: A 30x30x45cm terrarium is recommended for up to 2 adults

Material: Glass (with mesh top/good airflow)

 - Heating and Lighting

During the day, a temperature between 24ºC and 26ºC should be maintained. If necessary, a heat mat can be placed on one side of the terrarium to reach these temperatures.

Low-index UVB radiation should be provided (using a ShadeDweller or 6% lamp).

- Humidity

Water should always be available in a shallow water bowl. This species requires a relative humidity of at least 60%, ideally around 80%. We recommend misting the terrarium daily.

- Decor

Phelsuma quadriocellata feel comfortable among foliage. The terrarium should be furnished with plenty of vertical structure so they can occupy its upper areas. Branches, cork bark, stones and plants (artificial or live) can be used. Young animals should not be kept in excessively large terrariums.

Diet and Supplementation

Feeding habits: Insectivorous

Diet: They should be fed appropriately sized live insects daily. Fruit-based diets can also be offered occasionally.

- Foods

Insects: Fruit Flies, Crickets...

- Supplementation

For vitamin and mineral supplementation, alternate a meal dusted with Calcium Powder with one dusted with a good-quality Multivitamin Complex (with Vit. D3).
