Springtails (Seira sp.) are small, prehistoric insects, 1 - 2mm long, that live in damp substrates and act as decomposers, making them the most common choice for keeping the soil in tropical terrariums healthy. They can be used in combination with a Tropical Isopod Colony to keep damp tropical terrariums clean and healthy.
As well as keeping the terrarium soil healthy, they are also very important for feeding small amphibian species such as Dendrobatids.
Conservation
Your springtails can be kept in the container they come in. All that's needed is to keep the substrate inside the container moist and regularly provide food such as cereals (e.g. rice) (springtails don't feed directly on these, but rather on the fungi that will naturally grow on the cereals). They should be kept at a temperature of between 20ºC and 25ºC. Pay close attention to the temperature during the summer, as springtails cannot survive temperatures above 30ºC!
