The Caranguejo Red Devil is a sociable, semi-aquatic crab species. Its small size, ease of care and the option of keeping them in groups make it an excellent choice for a small aquaterrarium.
Although this is an easy species to keep, you should pay attention to a few aspects and ensure certain conditions, which you will find in the following paragraphs.
Size: A minimum terrarium of 30x30x30cm is recommended for 2-3 adults
Material: Glass
The terrarium temperature should be kept between 21ºC and 28ºC. At night it can drop by 2-3ºC
The Caranguejo Red Devil does not need UVB.
The Caranguejo Red Devil is a semi-aquatic animal from tropical habitats, so a relative humidity of around 80% should always be maintained. The terrarium should have either a water section or several pools. All bodies of water should be easily accessible via leaves, branches or stones.
For decor, try to recreate a tropical forest-floor habitat. A soil-and-sand substrate is recommended, with plenty of decor to hide in, such as logs and stones. You can also use live plants, both in the land and water sections
Feeding habits: Omnivorous
Diet: The Caranguejo Red Devil is omnivorous, feeding on plant matter but mainly on animal food (insects).
Crickets, Earthworms, Mealworms, Isopods, Springtails, Pieces of Fish, Fish Flake Food, Cucumber and Tomato (seedless).
The Caranguejo Red Devil should always have a calcium source available (e.g. cuttlefish bone).
