| Common Name: | Milpés Arco-Íris Vietnamita |
| Scientific Name: | Tonkinbolus dollfusi |
Size: Adults can reach 11cm
Origin: Thailand and Vietnam
Lifespan: Up to 5 years
Natural Habitat: The Milpés Arco-Íris Vietnamita inhabits Asian rainforests, living in the soil and decaying plant matter.
The Milpés Arco-Íris Vietnamita is one of the most colourful millipede species. They are harmless decomposers that can be kept alone or communally in tropical setups. It is a species suitable for beginners.
Although this is an easy species to keep, you should pay attention to a few aspects and ensure certain conditions, which you will find in the following paragraphs.
Size: A minimum terrarium of 20x20x20cm is recommended for 1-3 millipedes.
Material: Glass
The Milpés Arco-Íris Vietnamita should be kept at a constant, stable temperature between 22 and 25ºC. You can maintain these temperatures with a Heat Mat, ideally controlled by a thermostat. Never place the Heat Mat under the terrarium. Heat from the top so as not to overheat the substrate.
Millipedes do not need UVB.
As the Milpés Arco-Íris Vietnamita lives in rainforests, a constant relative humidity of around 80% should be maintained.
For decor, try to recreate a forest-floor habitat rich in organic matter. This species likes to burrow, so provide a tropical substrate at least 10cm deep. You can decorate the terrarium with logs, plants, cork bark, stones, moss...
Feeding habits: Decomposers
Diet: Millipedes feed on the decaying plant matter that makes up the substrate of their habitat. It is essential to provide an organic substrate rich in decaying leaves and wood. Fruit and vegetables should also be offered occasionally.
